MESSIER OBJECT 16 - THE EAGLE NEBULA  Located approximately 6,500 light years away towards the direction of the constellation Serpens, this nebula is an active region of star formation. At the center of this image are 'finger-like' columns of molecular hydrogen from which the new stars are emerging.

This nebula was imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope in 1995 and produced one of the most famous images released by the Space Telescope Science Institute; "The Pillars of Creation"

My image was captured unguided on May 21st and 22nd at Zodiac Ranch Observatory, Ft. Davis Texas using my Takahashi FS-102 refractor at f/8 and my ST-7ME CCD camera/CFW8a with the Tru-Balance color filter set. Sub-exposures were 30 seconds each for 15 minutes exposure time in L/R/G/B and Ha data sets.
