StarLab at Carlos Gilbert Elementary School

Judy Stanley, Outreach Site Coordinator from the Lodestar Astronomy Center, brought the StarLab Portable Planetarium to share with the students. My teacher partner Bob Stark and I were interested in introducing the youngest children to the wonders of the night sky. We had approximately 150 Kindergarten through 3rd grade students experience the StarLab.

Solar Viewing at Carlos Gilbert Elementary School

My teacher partner Bob Stark and I teamed up again to give the students a chance to view our closest star, The Sun. We gave the students a quick introduction to solar viewing which included a demonstration of the power of the The Sun's rays. Using a bit of paper towel and a magnifying glass, Bob made it clear to all the students that viewing The Sun without proper filtration and adult supervision can be very dangerous.
